As a full-time college student working two jobs and tutoring on the side, goals are a huge part of keeping on top of my hectic schedule. Thanks to the Road to a Better Me Linkup–a monthly event hosted by Jennie from Breakfast at Lilly’s and Brittany from Southern Soul– I’ve been even more focused on creating strong and intentional goals!
February Review
Finish reading Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. This was a phenomenal book, and I was actually able to finish it a week ahead of schedule!Make high grades on my advanced grammar exams. The thought of taking an advanced grammar class really scared me, but it just turns out that high school curriculum was awful at explaining grammar!Give two practice presentations of my research paper.Somehow I still feel anxious, especially with less than a week before presenting at a national convention. Que panic attacks galore.Run some blog maintenance. This is obviously still a work in progress, but….
Four completed goals out of eight isn’t too awful at all, especially since my other four were at least partially finished. Instead of publishing 10 posts, I published 9. While my research proposal was a struggle, I did finish my comparison paper earlier than planned. On another note, out of $6,000 worth of travel and study abroad fees, I only have $150 left to pay–something I’m waiting to cover with a fundraiser. The only thing that flopped was my handlettering challenge, but I still had fun during the three days that it lasted!
March Goals
Present my paper. AKA present my paper without freaking out and dying. Considering I only have three days until my panel, I’m not sure this is even an achievable goal. Still, I’m pretty determined to own my paper and give a solid presentation.
Focus on staying focused. I might be a junior in credit hours, but the sophomore slump is real. I have 0 motivation despite my dedication to keeping a 4.0 GPA. It’s a true struggle. Last week I decided to delete Facebook off my phone and replace it with productivity apps–something I want to continue with during the rest of this month.
Put $600+ in savings. Chances are, I won’t be living at home over the summer, and as usual, I’m determined to be as self-reliant as possible. This means paying for my own housing, groceries, and summer tuition. Since studying abroad has drained my typical savings, I figured now would be a good time to rebuild.
Continue to find my blogging vision. This is something I struggle with. I’m not exciting. To be honest, I’m a rather dull person. My personality doesn’t tend to be attention grabbing, so it’s hard for me to find a confident path with blogging. I’m always worried that I’m just wasting space.
Write a research paper over spring break. Yeah, I know–spring break is for fun. However, term papers are already just around the corner, and I’d love to get ahead in an attempt to alleviate future stress.
What’s your main goal for the month?
Great job with your February goals! It sounds like you accomplished a lot! I’m really interested to hear about how you budget/put away money for savings. It’s something I’ve been researching as well. Thanks for sharing!

I love this link up, and it’s so great to see what you are all up to and how you are making progress. I especially approve of your savings goal – saving money in college is so challenging (especially if you’re new to savings in general), but SO important! Thanks for sharing these and good luck with your march goals!

Hey, Sara! I agree that saving money is extremely important. It’s sad that the majority of college students have no idea how to create a budget or how to set savings aside.

Congrats on accomplishing 4 of your 8 goals last month! That’s so awesome! Good luck with your March goals, especially the one about finding your blog vision. I’ve been blogging for three years, and I feel like I’m still trying to figure mine out! Someone told me once that many of the ideas that people share aren’t new, but just because you’re not sharing a completely original idea doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be shared. If we both wrote blog posts about the same topic, it’s possible that yours would resonate with someone in a way that my words couldn’t. So don’t think that your blog could ever be a waste of space. Just do what you love and write about what you believe in, and that will always be good enough 🙂

Good luck with presenting your paper. That was always the most nerve racking type of presentation for me but they’re never as bad as you think they’re going to be. You’re going to do great! I love that you set a goal for how much money you’re wanting to save. I should have done that. haha xx Merisa | Monogrammed Magnolias

They’re extremely frightening — thank you so much for the encouragement. It means a lot.
Also, it’s never too late to start a savings goal. Maybe make a financial goal for April?
