A Peek in My Closet: Introduction and Fall Transitions

Obviously this isn’t my typical post but as this is a lifestyle blog, I feel like I won’t break too many rules by adding in the occasional fashion inspired post. After all, collegiates and globe-trotters are often stylish people or people in need of clothing inspiration. With that being said, it has taken me many years to grow comfortable with my fashion choices, because I’m a very awkward person. My new post series, “A Peek in My Closet”, is a way for me to express myself via clothing and inspire others to do the same….

Okay, let us get down to business. Weather in the fall is crazy, so it’s hard to know what to wear. You either freeze in the morning or deal with sticky sweat in the afternoon. My solution? A plain (or patterned, but I prefer solids) tank-top or tee-shirt underneath a lightweight blazer. It’s the perfect look for class or work, especially with cuffed jeans and a pair of heels or ankle boots in a neutral color. Today I chose heels simply because of the fact that they were the first thing I found in my closet. Outfit planning at its finest, people.

With this classic but casual style, keep the details professional and simple with a bracelet or necklace. Just remember to not go overboard. Usually one statement piece with earrings in more than enough. You can choose to keep the color scheme like me, or add a pop of color if you’re not too keen on saying goodbye to the warmth of summer. My bracelet actually came in the mail (a travel token from a friend in Morocco), so I didn’t start wearing it until halfway through the day. Despite its simplicity, it definitely brought the outfit together.

I know many people aren’t fond of the heel and cuffed jean combination, but it has started to become a signature aspect of my style. My only issue is with making sure the cuffs are even. Why can’t companies start making pre-rolled jeans? I would honestly splurge for a pair, which is saying a lot as everything I wore today was off the clearance rack.

And there we have it. The simple formula for the perfect fall transition: light shirt|light blazer|statement piece|cuffed jeans|neutral shoes. Also you cannot forget your planner no matter where you are in the world. A stylish planner (find my tips for finding the perfect planner here) is always a must…. Which is why you should keep a look out for my upcoming “Confessions of a Planner Addict” post.

Okay, now it’s your turn. How do you transition your wardrobe for the fall? Do you have any favorite statement pieces, maybe one from around the globe? Let me know it the comments!
