Let the Adventures Begin

Hello, friends. First off, I’m awful at beginnings, so instead of summoning a series of witty comments, I’ll just allow my ramblings to commence. I really hope that’s okay with you. If not, then oh well.

My name is Sierra Bailey, but you may know me as Sierra Kay from my previous (sadly failed) blogging attempts. Either name will work. I answer to just about anything, which probably isn’t the best now that I mention it….

Besides my name, you might need to know that I’m of the scholarly-type. Do you know the type that hide away between dusty book pages and only emerge when drastic measures are taken to extract them from their academic caves? Yeah, I’m that type. It tends to make me a bit of a bore around “normal” people. Normal is highly overrated in my world. A lecture hall is my playing field. Professors’ offices are almost as wonderful as the library. Only almost. I’m the eighteen-year-old who’s already considering possible topics for my dissertation. Yeah, a master’s degree and Ph.D. is certainly in my future forecast, though, I first need to brave the storm of obtaining my bachelor in arts.

Outside of being an amateur academic, I am also a writer. Words are life. Or at least they are my life. I was telling stories before I could even write. Talk about an intense imagination. It’s the chronic illness of the artist, and the symptoms have only worsened in my old age. In junior high my library card was habitually maxed out. It wasn’t uncommon for me to read through half a dozen books each week. From the time I was in elementary school, I dabbled in short stories, poetry, and different genres of novels. It’s pretty safe to say that no one was shocked when I declared an English major as a freshman in high school.

However, I will say that everyone was a bit taken aback when I arrived at college and declared a minor in Spanish. I even surprised myself. In retrospect we all should have seen it coming. My heart fell in love with traveling at a young age. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of family vacations, and trust me, there were many voyages. Mexico, Canada, the Yukon Territory, and over half the United States was gifted to me in a series of travels. Consequently, my heart never quite settled down. There are still a host of countries and continents that I long to explore. Because of this passionate wanderlust, I’ve gained a deep curiosity about other cultures and native tongues…hence my minor in a foreign language.

Now where exactly is this series of digressions taking us? I’m not sure. You see, I’m on a journey. At this point, the end of the road is still completely unknown to me. Currently, I’m a freshman living on a tiny university campus, studying literature, and exploring the horizons of the Texas panhandle. And I think that’s what I’ll be writing about—my adventures as a college student as I travel near and far. It’s a way for me to combine my love of writing with my intense sense of wanderlust.
Care to join me on my adventure?

  1. Hey Sierra! A writer and a Spanish student? I feel like I’m ready to start reading more posts already. 🙂 Good luck in college, and I look forward to more adventures in the coming days!
